The AOIT will introduce students to the opportunities in the Information Technology industry and will equip them with the skills they need to seek higher education and/or enter the digital workforce.
Post-secondary education—Because the Academy's curriculum meets TOPS requirements and incorporates college preparatory courses, students will be ready for the challenges of higher education. Articulation agreements with the local institutions of higher learning will allow AOIT students to graduate from CHS with college credit.
World of work—Students will be able to develop the personal, analytical, technical and communication skills they need to succeed in the job market. They will have the opportunity to obtain national/international industry certifications and get work experience in the IT field through the AOIT internship program.
The AOIT is guided by an Advisory Board, composed of members of local IT professionals, an AOIT parent, student and alumnus; and representatives of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, technical colleges and Lafayette Parish School System. This and other community partnerships are geared toward providing real-life experiences and toward keeping the Academy program grounded in the reality of the IT field.
Students take two technology classes and four core academic courses per year. Courses include Computer Technology Literacy I and II (CTL II emphasizes Networking and Computer Maintenance & Support), Introduction to Business Computer Applications, Digital Graphics and Animation (which includes Digital Photography, Video and Animation), Web Mastering, C++ Programming, Computer Business Applications I & II, Advanced Web Tools and Databases. Seniors will be given the opportunity for a college class, an industry certification class, or a senior capstone project class.
